Joan Dumouchel

Canadian painter Joan Dumouchel’s works feature contemplative personas in ethereal, atmospheric environments. Influenced by her daughter’s work as a circus performer, Dumouchel’s paintings have an air of theatricality; she situates costumed and emotionally expressive circus figures in colorful, surreal worlds with limited backdrops. Led by intuition and impulse as she begins, Dumouchel experiments with numerous expressions in her preliminary charcoal sketches before expanding upon them in her final composition, capturing the emotions through the use of a fitting color palette. She studied at the University of Quebec in Montreal.
