MARC GAGNÉ

The mixed media constructions of Marc Gagne range from funky shaped abstractions that play with the shape of “word balloons” from comics, to large and heavily worked pieces incorporating doors and other found objects that are inspired by urban surfaces and decay.

The artist’s earliest memory of making art is the act of un-wrapping his childhood crayons and applying them to a hot exhaust duct of a neighboring apartment building and watching the molten colours flow down the metal. In Art College, he found that he had a strong impulse to add found elements or scavenged material to every work. Since then, wax, colour, heat, and metal have been part of his methods and materials, along with painting, weathered wood, recycling, and burning.
